About this grant
Most communities in America struggle with issues of race, and Genesee County is no exception. In 1999, Flint Area Citizens To End Racism (FACTER) was developed. Since its creation, FACTER has identified the need for leadership development and training for conveners and participants, and has sought an avenue for deepening the anti-racism skills of local participants. The potential replication of the Leadership Development in Interethnic Relations (LDIR) initiative, an Los Angeles-based skills building and leadership development program appeared to be an excellent opportunity for the Flint community.Funding will enable LDIR to focus on adapting the program curriculum to the Flint community and providing a six-month intensive training program for FACTER action team conveners and participants, and other individuals involved in anti-racism work throughout the community. The YWCA of Greater Flint is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a socially just society by providing opportunities for women’s growth, leadership and power and by working toward the elimination of racism.
