    The Mott Foundation has been a longtime supporter of community foundations, starting in the late 1970s with grants made to develop and strengthen the field in the United States, and expanding to develop the community foundation field internationally.

  • South Africa reflects on 10 years of democracy

    The Mott Foundation’s most recent support to the Institute for Democracy in South Africa was a grant to encourage Africans and Indians in the KwaZulu-Natal province to talk openly about their differences while working side by side on community projects.

  • Mott commits $5 million for a democracy-building initiative in the Balkans

    The Balkan Trust for Democracy, a new project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), was recently developed by a public/private partnership between GMF, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and Mott. The three partners have earmarked $25 million to launch the new grantmaking program that will be based in Belgrade and begin operations in summer 2003.
