2011 Annual Message | Transforming lives through afterschool

In his 2011 annual message, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation President and CEO William S. White expounds on the theme of the annual report — the transformative nature of high-quality afterschool programs. White describes how the productive use of time spent before and after school, as well as during the summer months, contributes to building a solid foundation for learning. He also notes that evidence is beginning to show that when students participate in top-quality programs, their school attendance improves, they behave better in class and earn better grades, and they are less likely to engage in a host of unhealthy behaviors.
