The Balancing Act: The Roles of a Community Foundation

The Balancing Act: The Roles of a Community Foundation

The Balancing Act is a series of three monographs authored by Mott Foundation Consultant Dorothy 'Dottie' Reynolds. The publications explore the core functions of community foundations, which are local institutions that gather local resources to meet local needs under the direction of local leadership. Each publication addresses a specific topic: 1) community foundation as a grantmaker, 2) as a vehicle for local philanthropy and 3) as a community leader.

Since the late 1970s, Mott has been making grants to build and strengthen the community foundation field, first in the U.S. and then internationally. During the past 30-plus years, Mott has provided grants totaling more than $125 million to the community foundation movement around the globe. Originally published in English, The Balancing Act has been translated into three additional languages.
