About this grant

The project goal is to increase access to justice for poor and marginalized people in Sierra Leone. To this end, the Legal Aid Board — Sierra Leone will continue to provide justice services to people in remote rural locations that are hard to reach. The grantee will also continue its outreach and training activities, including support for community advice bureaus. Past support has helped the grantee reach 175,776 people through a network of 13 community paralegals in hard-to-reach areas of the country. The paralegals also monitored local court proceedings and other justice institutions to ensure that due process and human rights were followed in their work. The Legal Aid Board was established in 2015 by the country’s Legal Aid Act, with the main purpose of providing free justice services to people in Sierra Leone.
