About this grant

Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, based in western New York on the shores of Lakes Erie and Ontario, is one of the largest watershed organizations in the state. The grantee has a strong presence in the region and uses its voice to bring attention to water quality and climate issues impacting New York and the Great Lakes. With previous Mott Foundation support, the grantee raised public awareness of these issues, which has helped advance policies and increase environmental protections and investments in the Great Lakes. With renewed support from the Foundation, Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper will continue to: 1) elevate the profile of western New York in the state; 2) support critical water quality protection efforts; 3) enhance climate resilience, especially in vulnerable coastal communities; and 4) address ongoing threats to the Great Lakes which challenge the region.
