General Purposes

About this grant

Accountability Counsel supports communities around the world to protect their environment and human rights. Infrastructure and energy projects funded by development finance institutions often come with substantial social and environmental risks. The grantee engages with these institutions’ accountability mechanisms to advocate for communities, secure remedies and ensure that lending policies do not cause harm. With prior Mott Foundation funding, the grantee strengthened its organizational and programmatic capacity to respond to community requests, develop strategies and engage with decision-makers. With renewed general purposes support, Accountability Counsel will continue to work alongside communities to halt or delay harmful investments, conduct data analysis to illuminate systemic barriers and use lessons learned to advocate for investments that are responsive to community needs.
