About this grant
The goal of this project is to support the advancement of racial equity for Native communities by U.S. community foundations, applying the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2023, Native Americans in Philanthropy issued a report that provided an assessment of the current state of community foundation interaction with Native communities. Based on these findings, the grantee developed a 6-year educational, relationship-building and resource-leveraging project. In year one, the grantee: 1) established relationships with regional community foundations; 2) created a model for future outreach in other regions; 3) hired staff and developed an internal work plan; 4) held an initial place-based workshop; and 5) implemented a pilot challenge grant program. A grant increase will enable the following activities in year two: conducting three regional workshops, establishing connections with the grantee’s Tribal Philanthropy Coalition and issuing community foundation match challenge grants to Tribal Communities. Founded in 1990, Native Americans in Philanthropy promotes equitable and effective philanthropy in Native communities.
