Statement regarding shooting and fire at church in Grand Blanc, Michigan

The following is a statement from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
Our hearts go out to the victims, family members and loved ones of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan. The shooting and fire that occurred this morning while members of our community were worshipping were heinous acts. The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation mourns the loss of those in our home community and grieves with all who are affected.
We hope this tragedy will remind people everywhere to lead with love — not hate, to look after those who are less fortunate and to reach out to those who are struggling with mental health and other illnesses. Violence has no place in our community or country. We need to cherish every life and ensure that all of God’s children are protected. We also need to work together to respect differences and celebrate the freedom of religious pluralism that our country was founded on.
In the coming days and weeks, we call on community members to stand up to violence and hate, fight fear and embrace one another in solidarity. As always, the Mott Foundation stands with our community, and we will be working on ways to help support the victims of this senseless crime.
