About this grant

The Research Foundation of the City University of New York provides oversight of the management of funds obtained by faculty. The Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society manages the International Fellows Program on Community Philanthropy within the university’s graduate center. The program provides an opportunity for practitioners from around the world to learn about community foundations through an intensive program of research, seminars and mentoring. Between the program’s inception, in 1989, through 2025, 273 individuals from 75 countries will have benefited and the program has contributed to the creation of various philanthropy-related ventures in countries such as Brazil, Nepal, Ukraine, Turkey, Zimbabwe, Indonesia and Ghana. Over the next two years, the Research Foundation of the City University of New York will test the feasibility of working with philanthropic research centers in Africa and Latin America to cohost and run these programs with the aim of ultimately transitioning such programming to institutions in the Global South.
