About this grant
The Flint Institute of Music, located on the Flint Cultural Center campus, was established in 1917. Today, the grantee reaches more than 250,000 people each year through lessons, classes, outreach programs, performances and concerts. The grantee is home to the Flint School of Performing Arts, Michigan’s largest community arts school and the 8th-largest in the U.S. Located in the Flint Cultural Center, it offers comprehensive music, dance and theater instruction to over 3,500 students of all ages and skill levels. This grant will provide seed funding for the Davin Pierson Torre Legacy Fund, which will finance the Flint School of Performing Arts’ Seeing Stars Fund, a tuition assistance program that supports economically challenged students in engaging in high-quality arts instruction.
