About this grant
Mott support will enable the Alfond Scholarship Foundation to continue the Harold Alfond College Challenge Program, the nation’s first statewide children’s savings account program. In addition to implementation, evaluation is a primary focus for the renewal grant period. To advance broader field-building goals, the grantee will continue to share best practices, lessons and ongoing evaluation findings. Established in 2008 as a pilot in Portland, Maine, the program automatically awards a $500 grant to every child born in the state to encourage additional education savings and foster higher education aspirations.
