About this grant
The Woodwell Climate Research Center is a leading scientific organization working globally to address climate change and, in Brazil, to protect the Amazon Rainforest. Building on its expertise in fire science, climate risk analysis and geospatial tools, the grantee partners with Brazilian research institutions to address mounting pressures from climate change and human activities, including fire, drought, smoke, mining and deforestation. Over the last grant period, the grantee examined the links between climate-induced risks and their implications for human health. With this renewal, the grantee will provide capacity-building for Indigenous leaders to monitor their territories on climate-induced threats. Woodwell Climate Research Center will also develop a pilot community-driven monitoring system that integrates Indigenous knowledge with satellite data to strengthen community resilience to fire and other climate-related risks.
