About this grant
The project goal is to increase financing for community justice and environmental defenders from mining companies and development finance institutions in Southern Africa. To this end, the Southern Africa Resource Watch will continue its efforts to encourage mining companies to support community justice and environmental defenders, while strengthening grievance mechanisms to hold companies accountable. Past support has enabled the grantee to develop and pilot toolkits that help communities negotiate social financing that contributes to development outcomes. It also helped build trust between mining affected communities, justice actors, mining companies and government in areas where this has been possible. The Southern Africa Resource Watch is a regional nonprofit organization that promotes the transparent and accountable use of natural resources in Southern Africa.
