About this grant
Michigan’s northern forests and the associated freshwater resources face a series of interrelated threats rooted in decades of forest management that have eroded the forest’s ecological diversity. The Nature Conservancy, a global conservation organization, works to protect and restore Michigan’s Northwoods and waters through a variety of means. Over the next two years with partial Mott support, the grantee will build a replicable, science-based model that links forest health directly to freshwater quality. Specific activities will include managing more forested land with water-focused practices, developing new markets for tree species that have outsized positive impacts on water quality and sharing lessons learned with key partners and other stakeholders.
