Kate Stockrahm

About

Kate Stockrahm is an associate communications officer working with the Mott Foundation’s Flint Area program.

Stockrahm is a Dearborn, Michigan, native and came back to her home state in 2021 after nearly a decade on the East Coast. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, where she majored in English and minored in Latin. She also earned a master’s degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she focused on audio production, visual storytelling and multimedia story design.

Stockrahm then joined the national Report for America program, leading her to Flint as a reporter with Flint Beat. In that role, she established the newsroom’s economic development beat, covering affordable housing, brownfield redevelopment, business openings and blight elimination efforts in the city. She was soon promoted to associate editor, helping guide the outlet’s government accountability, gun violence and solutions journalism coverage before transitioning to a role as editor at East Village Magazine. Her passion for quality local journalism continued at EVM, where she trained aspiring writers in the practice and ethics of journalism and shepherded the local publication to its 50th anniversary before joining the Mott Foundation.

Stockrahm lives in Flint with her partner, Joel, and their two cats, Bijou and Baci. She serves on the boards of multiple local organizations, and, in her free time, you can find her volunteering, walking or biking along the Flint River Trail, working on projects with her neighbors in the city’s historic Carriage Town neighborhood or reading from a sun-filled seat at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library.
