About

Alfred Saucedo leads Mott’s national water policy grantmaking within our Environment program’s One Water initiative.

Prior to joining Mott, Saucedo served as chief of staff for Region 5 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, based in Chicago, where he supported the regional administrator in crafting and implementing policy across the region’s programs and operations. His work addressed major priorities, including responses to the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, and the drinking water crisis in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He also helped protect the Great Lakes from invasive carp through the Brandon Road Interbasin Project, and he coordinated with state and local partners to address longstanding drinking water, stormwater and wastewater issues in Cahokia Heights, Illinois. Across all of this work, Saucedo built and managed relationships with state partners, Tribal nations, and community and environmental organizations throughout the region.

Before his time at EPA, Saucedo served as chief of staff for Commissioner Debra Shore at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, the region’s stormwater and wastewater utility, which is responsible for wastewater treatment and stormwater management for more than 5 million people. There, his work focused on green infrastructure, resource recovery and healthy waterways initiatives. He also helped establish an independent inspector general position to prevent waste, fraud and abuse, and launch a countywide pharmaceutical takeback program aimed at reducing pharmaceutical residue in local water systems and waterways.

Saucedo holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Houston. He was called to active duty twice with the U.S. Marine Corps for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Raised in a family that enjoyed the outdoors, he continues to enjoy hiking and paddling with his wife, Linda. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
