About this grant

The project goal is to prepare the groundwork for the establishment of a national endowment fund for community foundations in Romania. The Romanian-American Foundation will increase the knowledge and understanding about the process of raising, managing, and using endowment funds among all interested stakeholders, including community foundations, support organizations, donors, and public institutions; strengthen the strategic communications and fundraising skills of community foundations and support organizations; support community foundations to carry out feasibility studies for their endowment building initiatives; and research the legal and fiscal conditions for the establishment of the national fund and create the necessary legal agreements and infrastructure for the fund. The grantee was established in 2009 with the mission to promote the development of a sustainable market economy and pluralistic democracy in Romania and has awarded more than 80 grants totaling over $12 million. The grantee is registered in the United States and operates out of its office in Bucharest, Romania.
