The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation believes in the importance of transparency to the communities we serve. In addition to information about our program interests and grants, financial information about the Foundation is available in our most recent Annual Report, including detailed financial statements about assets, grants and other expenditures.

The Foundation’s most recent tax return, IRS Form 990-PF Return of Private Foundation, is available for viewing or downloading on the Candid website. Print copies of the Foundation’s most recent tax returns are available upon request. Any request for a print copy should be sent to the Foundation’s home office in Flint. All requests will be handled within 30 days. Additional information about IRS compliance for private foundations can be obtained from the Council on Foundations.

 

Charts about the Mott Foundation's 2023 grantmaking. 376 grants were made totaling $156 million. There were 86 civil society grants, making up 22.9% of grantmaking. 68 education grants made up 18.1% of grantmaking. 91 environment grants made up 24.2% of grantmaking. 126 Flint area grants made up 33.5% of grantmaking. Five exploratory and special projects made up 1.3% of grantmaking.

In 2023, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation ended the year with more than $3.7 billion in assets. Our grantmaking in 2023 totaled $156 million.
