“The Mott Foundation has been a part of my life from childhood to today. After a tragic house fire took the lives of my brother, sister, and cousin, I received counseling at the Mott Children’s Health Center, supported by the Foundation. As a child growing up in Flint, I didn’t know who funded those services — I just knew someone cared. That support helped me begin to heal.

“Today, as CEO of Communities First, Inc., I see that same care through Mott’s investment in our work. With their support, we’ve created safe, affordable housing for thousands of Flint residents. One example is the transformation of the former Coolidge Elementary, the last school I attended with my siblings and cousin — into Coolidge Park Apartments, now an award-winning, vibrant community with a gym and playground regularly used by neighbors and groups.

“What makes Mott unique is that, although it’s a large foundation, it still feels local, like family. Their funding doesn’t just support our projects; it helps us leverage millions more in public and private dollars to bring real change to Flint. Their commitment to convening voices across sectors and putting community at the center is what makes meaningful progress possible.”
