About this grant

Research shows a definite link between poverty, non-payment of child support, incarceration and joblessness. Realistic child support policies that can help parents manage their child support obligations would enhance the efforts of workforce development programs. This grant will enable the Center for Law and Social Policy to analyze and disseminate research in order to improve child support enforcement policies and thereby the quality of life for affected families.Funding will support activities that include educating federal and state policymakers about specific policy barriers and effective approaches to helping low-income fathers manage their child support obligations; working with fatherhood, employment and re-entry programs to promote advocacy strategies for effective policy; improving public awareness about research findings of the Fathers at Work Initiative; and strengthening coordination and collaboration across the fatherhood, criminal justice and workforce development fields. The Center for Law and Social Policy is a national nonprofit that works to improve the lives of low-income people. Its mission is to foster the economic security, educational and workforce prospects, and family stability of low-income parents, children and youth.
