About this grant
The organization’s goal is to improve the quality of life in poor communities in South Africa by supporting community-based organizations that promote access to justice, equity, human rights, youth empowerment and food security. To this end, the Social Change Assistance Trust makes grants to community advice offices and local development agencies working in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Free State, Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces. In addition, the Social Change Assistance Trust provides training and connects organizations working in these areas. Activities under the previous grant included making grants of over $1,200,000 to 59 community advice offices, local development agencies and other support organizations across five provinces. The Social Change Assistance Trust has built partnerships with foundations, multilateral organizations and businesses to unlock funding that reaches communities in response to various issues impacting communities, including climate resilience, gender justice and youth empowerment. During this grant period, the Social Change Assistance Trust will continue to support community advice offices and local development agencies to improve the quality of life for communities on the margins.
