Community Foundation Development in Costa Rica

About this grant

The project goal is to support the formation and strengthening of community foundations in Costa Rica. Over the past two years, the Forever Costa Rica Association provided technical assistance, seed capital, financial sustainability planning and experience exchange opportunities for Costa Rica’s seven community foundations. The association also supported the process of the creation of Costa Rica’s first community foundation network, COMUNIFF. During the next two years, the association aims to consolidate a strong, well-governed and financially sustainable community philanthropy movement in Costa Rica. This will include: 1) implementing financial sustainability plans; 2) building robust governance systems; 3) enhancing operational capacity; 4) supporting networked collaboration; and 5) enabling effective local fundraising and partnerships. The association also envisions that two new organizations will join COMUNIFF in the near future. The Forever Costa Rica Association was created in 2010 to enhance partnerships and mobilize resources for biodiversity conservation and human well-being in Costa Rica.
