About this grant
Since 1982, Heifer Project International, a global development nonprofit organization, has operated in Uganda, improving incomes, livelihoods and climate resilience for nearly 1 million farmer households. Over the past grant period, the grantee trained over 600 women and youth, evaluated the feasibility of solar energy services at four dairy cooperatives, and secured six strategic partnerships to advance the productive use of solar energy services in Uganda. This renewal will enable the grantee to support an additional 400 underserved youth and women entrepreneurs with solar skills, jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities in Uganda’s dairy sector. The grantee will also enhance access to financial and business development services for off-grid solar energy users and continue strengthening collaboration among key stakeholders through a self-sustaining Distributed Renewable Energy Ecosystem Model Hub initiative in Uganda.
