About this grant

The project goal is to complete the manuscript of “A History of United States Community Foundations: The First 100 Years,” originally initiated by Eleanor Sacks. Dr. Laurie Paarlberg, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation Chair of Community Foundations at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, will complete the book. A contract with the publishing firm Springer is in place, which includes Dr. Paarlberg’s contributions. Grounded in extensive archival research, the book examines the intellectual, philanthropic, social and economic contexts that have shaped the evolution of community foundations over the past century. Such a book, which will be both scholarly and accessible to practitioners, will be an important contribution to the field’s advancement. This grant will support professional editing services, travel to the Rockefeller Archives Center for completion of research and the costs of a research assistant to complete the compilation of a bibliography.
