About this grant

This grant provides support to the Council on Foundations — a national philanthropic organization founded in 1949 that currently represents over 900 members — and its efforts to reach more community foundations with its Building Common Ground programming. The grantee’s mission is to foster an environment where philanthropy can thrive and cultivate a community of diverse and skilled philanthropic professionals and organizations who lead with integrity, serve as ethical stewards and advocate for progress. During this upcoming grant period, the grantee will: 1) reduce the barrier to entry for community foundations to engage in the Building Common Ground work; 2) create space specifically for community foundations to learn from each other; 3) launch a grant program with wraparound capacity building for community foundations; and 4) amplify stories of community foundations’ impact on bridging differences. The Council on Foundations will leverage its extensive community foundation network, core strategic focus on building common ground and strong partnerships with subject matter experts to further build the capacity of community foundations across the United States.
