About the senior investment analyst position

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is seeking a senior investment analyst, reporting to our chief investment officer. This full-time position is based in Troy, Michigan, with some remote work. (Please note that effective late summer 2026, the investment office will be relocating to Ann Arbor, Michigan).

The senior investment analyst will work closely with other members of the investment team in all phases of the investment process, from sourcing to funding, with a special focus on quantitative data analysis and ad hoc reporting, The senior investment analyst will work across the various asset classes (such as public equity, hedge funds, venture capital, buyout, fixed income, etc.) and will work with all members on the investment team, as well as the investment operations staff.

The ideal candidate is proactive, self-directed, and possesses the sound judgment to work through multipart and nuanced assignments with high attention to detail and flexibility. This position requires dedication to producing quality work while displaying a collaborative work style.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in investment manager meetings, including the compilation of premeeting materials and the composition of timely, accurate and comprehensive post-meeting notes.
  • Develop proficiency in the office’s risk software and use this skill to perform detailed analyses of investment managers, asset classes, asset allocation and other subjects as required.
  • Prepare ongoing and ad hoc reports related to portfolio construction, risk management, performance and evaluation of the macro investment environment.
  • Maintain investment pipeline and triage inbound investment opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain database/system of record for active and prospective manager meetings.
  • Assist in evaluating new managers, investment ideas and opportunities across all asset classes by monitoring prospective managers’ qualitative and quantitative characteristics.
  • Actively participate in the preparation of investment memos and presentations.
  • Develop working knowledge of day-to-day activities related to the Foundation’s investment operations activities and collaborate with the team on projects as needed.
  • Collaborate with the operations team at the inception of a new investment to ensure the thorough collection of investment documents, including legal and tax-related materials, as well as the efficient execution of the team’s onboarding process.
  • Contribute to the quarterly production of investment committee materials, ensuring the accuracy of data, methodology and presentation.
  • Contribute to research pieces alongside senior staff.
  • Serve as a representative of the Foundation throughout the investment community by participating in peer networking events, attending industry conferences and investment manager meetings.

Qualifications and requirements

  • BA/BS degree with a deep interest in investing.
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience, ideally in finance, investing, consulting or with another allocator institution.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, demonstrated through academic coursework and/or work experience.
  • Strong writing, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, database tools, AI applications and other technology pertinent to analyst role.
  • Collaborative and cooperative work style with a team orientation.
  • Strong alignment with Mott’s mission.
