About

Theodoros Chronopoulos co-manages the Environment program’s grantmaking on Transforming Development Finance. Before joining Mott, he worked as senior program officer for Africa and Russia at EMpower – The Emerging Markets Foundation. From 2012 to 2014, he worked as a consultant to Mott’s Civil Society Program, running a community of practice bringing together advocates on public participation from Eastern Europe and Russia. From 2006 to 2012, he worked for the Sigrid Rausing Trust, where he developed and directed its Social and Environmental Justice program.

Chronopoulos has spent most of his career stewarding philanthropic resources to support innovative strategies designed to increase transparency, foster public participation and strengthen accountability mechanisms among private and public institutions. This work has assisted advocates and communities in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe to develop a range of instruments, standards and institutional innovations, as well as to protect human rights defenders.

He has served on the boards of several organizations in the U.S. and abroad, including the Bretton Woods Project and the Center for International Environmental Law. He currently serves on the boards of the International Accountability Project and Re-course and is a member of the advisory board of the Environmental Defenders Law Project. He’s based in Mott’s London office.
