About this grant

This grant supports an affinity group of the European Foundation Centre to improve the effectiveness of grantmaking in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and to encourage new donor activity in the region. The Grantmakers East Group was created in 1992, and its core activity is an annual meeting for grantmakers active in the region. Approximately 150 grantmakers participate in the annual meetings. The group is guided by a steering committee and administered by a secretariat housed in the European Foundation Centre. Over the years, the annual meetings have improved networking and information exchange among donors, encouraged development of new philanthropic initiatives, and promoted good grantmaking practices. In 2007-2009, the European Foundation Centre will work with the steering committee to improve the format of the annual meetings, widely disseminate meeting reports, and ensure the continuing relevance of the meetings to the changing context in the region.
