About this grant
The Ford, Casey, and Mott foundations created the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative in 1992 in order to build state capacity for timely, credible, and accessible tax and budget analysis on behalf of low- and middle-income families. As states face the challenges of devolution, issues of state fiscal policy grow even more important. This grant supports the Fiscal Policy Institute, a nonpartisan research and education organization that conducts policy research, analysis, and education to increase understanding of issues related to the fairness of New York’s tax system and the stability and adequacy of state and local public services. It is particularly concerned with safety net and poverty reduction programs, and programs that assist low- and moderate-income people in moving up the socioeconomic ladder. Related to this project is a grant to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which provides technical assistance to all the state organizations participating in this initiative.
