About this grant

This is one of ten grants recommended to state organizations participating in the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative. The Ford, Casey, and Mott foundations created the initiative in 1992 in order to build state capacity for timely, credible, and accessible tax and budget analysis on behalf of low- and moderate-income families. The Fiscal Policy Institute joined the initiative in 1994 and is recognized throughout New York as an authoritative source of information and analysis. During the renewal grant period, the institute will conduct policy research, analysis, and education to increase understanding of issues related to the fairness of New York’s tax system and the stability and adequacy of public services, with a particular emphasis on programs that assist low- and moderate-income people in moving up the socioeconomic ladder. The grantee’s research will also highlight the economic challenges facing low-wage workers. Related to this project is a grant to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which analyzes federal budget and tax policy issues and provides technical assistance to all the state organizations participating in this initiative.
