About this grant
The Legal Resources Trust provides legal support to civil society organizations on issues ranging from legal education and litigation to the administration of justice. This grant supports the grantee in providing assistance on how to establish, register, and administer nonprofit organizations in South Africa. Through previous support, the grantee developed materials on nonprofit legal matters and provided training in nonprofit law to other civil society organizations and legal practitioners. It also translated some of these materials into isiXhosa, one of South Africa’s official languages, and supported the registration of nonprofits under appropriate legislation to allow them to benefit from tax laws. This grant will continue to provide support for this project. Additionally, it will assist the trust to investigate the establishment of an advice office network within the faith-based community, in particular the Methodist and Catholic churches, to respond to the growing need for legal services among poor people.
