About this grant

This grant provides general purpose support to a leading nongovernmental organization in Bosnia-Herzegovina that promotes tolerance and understanding among youth, advocates for greater participation of youth in decisionmaking processes in schools and communities, and develops volunteerism among youth. Continued Mott support will enable the Youth Communication Center – Banja Luka to strengthen its organizational capacities as a leader in developing volunteerism, expanding its work in secondary school councils throughout the country, and diversifying its funding base. During the past two years, the grantee strengthened entity-level networks of secondary school student councils, which together represent nearly 400 secondary schools comprising more than 180,000 students. The grantee also conducted the first nationwide research on volunteerism and widely disseminated the results and conclusions. Other ongoing activities included operating Radio Balkan, a youth-run radio station; hosting a range of nonformal, community-based education programs; and providing psychosocial assistance to vulnerable groups through direct counseling and volunteer programs. The grantee is based in Banja Luka, the capital of the Republika Srpska.
