About this grant
This grant provides continued general purpose support to Independent Sector, a leadership forum of more than 580 charities, foundations, and corporate giving programs dedicated to advancing the common good by leading, strengthening, and mobilizing the nonprofit and philanthropic community. Major activities over the past two years have included advocacy on policies affecting the nonprofit sector, efforts to promote accountability and effectiveness among charities and foundations, and programming aimed at developing next generation nonprofit leaders. Over the next two years, the grantee will focus on strengthening the nonprofit and philanthropic community’s voice, leadership, and impact. Major areas of activity will include advancing public policies that support the nonprofit sector, increasing nonprofit engagement in advocacy, maintaining a strong system of tax incentives for charitable giving, developing the next generation of nonprofit leaders, promoting nonprofit ethics and accountability, and expanding and deepening a diverse membership.
