About this grant
This grant provides renewal support to the Southern Center for International Studies for three television conferences. Since convening the first meeting with the former U.S. secretaries of state in 1983, the grantee has produced more than 50 one-hour television programs in this series. These programs, which have been aired in 90 percent of the public broadcasting television markets across the country, provide the general public with a comprehensive annual review of the most important foreign policy and national security issues facing the United States. During the grant period, conferences are planned with former secretaries of state, defense, and possibly energy or the treasury. Video footage from the conferences is also incorporated into "The World in Transition" series, a ten-part, multimedia educational series designed to internationalize the way social studies teachers at the middle and high school levels teach world affairs. Founded more than 45 years ago, the Southern Center for International Studies is an independent center for thought and opinion on international affairs and foreign policy.
