About this grant
The Community Development Unit is based at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, a region hardest hit by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. A number of community-based organizations have been established in response to this challenge, many of them involved in running care centers for the frail, providing home-based care, and advocating on behalf of those infected and affected. Mott has been supporting the Community Development Unit to provide capacity building, institutional support, and training to many of these organizations to enhance their effectiveness and to ensure that they are able to locate funding for their vital work. This renewal grant will continue to support the work of the Community Development Unit, ensuring that it is able to extend its services to more districts in the Eastern Cape. The Community Development Unit will also provide accredited training in project management and project leadership.
