About this grant
This grant will enable Southern Echo to continue providing seed grants and technical assistance to emerging community-based organizations serving low-income neighborhoods in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Its role as an intermediary is to identify emerging groups for support, administer a small grants program, coordinate grantee technical assistance, organize grantee meetings, maintain program data and records, assist with project evaluation activities, and participate in network meetings.The Mott Foundations’ Intermediary Support for Organizing Communities (ISO) program was established in 1979 to increase citizen participation in democratic processes, especially in low-income communities. Since then, it has evolved into a community-organizing strategy that seeks to build and strengthen the institutional capacity of neighborhood-development organizations.The center has been a participant in the program since 1999 and is one of five intermediary organizations receiving grants as part of Mott’s 2006 ISO program.
