About this grant
The Pitseng Trust was established in 1998 by women in Johannesburg who were inspired by Mama Cash in the Netherlands and the Global Fund for Women. As a dedicated women’s fund, the organization’s major goal is to support and build the capacity of local women’s organizations, especially those working on income generation and economic development, through grantmaking, training, and capacity building. Over the past two years, the grantee supported a range of projects that grew in size and assets. As a result, three grantee-supported projects are now fully self-sufficient. The grantee also improved its organizational systems and processes, produced a newsletter on African indigenous knowledge, and introduced an electronic grantmaking system. This grant will continue support for women’s initiatives in poor communities so that they can be economically independent and able to realize their rights.
