About this grant

The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact was adopted to protect the region’s freshwater system from proposals to divert water outside of the basin as well as excessive in-basin use. The National Wildlife Federation, a national conservation group with a strong presence in the Great Lakes, partners with regional and state-level organizations to ensure the compact is effectively implemented in each Great Lakes state. With previous Mott support, the grantee developed policy recommendations, provided scientific and legal support to partners, and led public education initiatives. With this grant increase, the grantee will continue these efforts, paying special attention to a precedent-setting, water-withdrawal proposal in Wisconsin.
