About this grant
Social Change Assistance Trust is a grantmaking organization established in 1984 that predominantly funds rural organizations in order to improve the quality of life in their communities. It supports programs that address human rights, gender equity, HIV/AIDS, and local economic development. Past support assisted the grantee to fund and support community advice offices in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Northern Cape, and Free State provinces. Over the past two years, the grantee made grants and provided training and mentoring support to community advice offices and assisted communities in the Northern Cape province to establish food gardens. This grant will support the grantee to continue to fund and provide peer learning opportunities for community advice offices. It will also train and mentor paralegals and management committees in advice offices. In addition to the four provinces already supported, the grantee will also work in the Northwest and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.
