About this grant

The program goal is to promote and develop volunteerism in Bulgaria by strengthening the capacity and outreach of a national network of volunteer centers. The National Alliance for Volunteer Action will work with its partners in the network to strengthen and coordinate training and capacity-building services, improve local and national public awareness about volunteerism, and facilitate joint initiatives of the network of local volunteer centers. In addition, the alliance will strengthen its organizational capacity and financial sustainability. Since its establishment in 2000, the alliance has established a network of regional and local volunteer centers, developed national standards for volunteer management, and raised public awareness about volunteerism in Bulgaria. In 2007-2008, the grantee established 16 new local volunteer centers, mobilized over 1,500 volunteers for each of its six national volunteer campaigns, and provided input in developing national policies on volunteerism in Bulgaria.
