About this grant
This grant will enable People Acting for Community Together (PACT) to continue the Florida Statewide Education Reform Project, a grassroots community organizing effort. A coalition of nine congregation-based community organizations will work together on a statewide effort to establish high quality standards for Florida’s Voluntary Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. In addition, each organization will work on local education-related issues. Participating organizations will receive assistance with capacity building, leadership development and training, and opportunities to share challenges, successes and strategies from their local campaign work.PACT was founded in 1988 by a group of interfaith religious leaders who were concerned about the growing powerlessness and alienation confronting low- and moderate-income people in Dade County, Florida. Since then, PACT has expanded to 28 institutional members including churches, synagogues and schools, representing more than 400,000 people from Anglo, Hispanic and Haitian/West Indian and English-speaking Caribbean communities.
