About this grant

Focus: HOPE has served thousands of low-income Detroiters since the civil rights organization was founded in 1968. More than 9,000 people, mostly young African- Americans, have graduated from Focus: HOPE’s manufacturing and technology training programs, giving them an opportunity to climb the ladder of economic success. In addition, Focus: HOPE also feeds approximately 43,000 families every month as it pursues the dual mission of alleviating poverty and advancing civil rights.Funding will support the organization’s efforts to maintain retention levels so that more students complete the Machinist Training Institute program and receive a bachelor’s or associate’s degree from the Center for Advanced Technologies; continue to deliver the food distribution program for those in need; complete strategic reviews and plans for future sustainability of programs; and improve marketing efforts.
