About this grant
The program goal is to increase public participation in local decisionmaking and community development in Bulgaria. Creating Effective Grassroots Alternatives, a Bulgarian, nongovernmental organization, will provide capacity building support to local community initiatives working for community change through self-organization and dialogue with local government. In addition, the grantee will strengthen its organizational capacity and financial sustainability. Established in 1995, the grantee has been focusing on marginalized and ethnically diverse communities, particularly the Roma, and the capacity and ability of these communities to access local, national, and European development resources. The grantee’s past achievements include supporting the development of over 50 community, nonprofit organizations in ethnically mixed communities in Bulgaria, facilitating networking and coalition building among organizations working with Roma, and providing input in policy development processes concerning Roma.
