About this grant
Multiyear funding will enable the International Center for Transitional Justice to assist the governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia and Montenegro to respond to a legacy of human rights abuses in order to prevent the repetition of such violations in the future. The organization also works to advance accountability, promote institutional reform and respond to the needs of victims.During the past two years, the center has provided direct assistance to key NGOs in the region working on transitional justice issues; conducted workshops and seminars for students and practitioners of transitional justice; and monitored and published reports on war crimes documentation, war crimes trials and vetting processes. In order to support its work in the Western Balkans and elsewhere, the center opened an office in Brussels in August 2005.The center was established in 2001 to promote accountability by helping countries develop effective responses to human rights abuse.
