About this grant
The Democracy Development Program supports democracy at the local level in KwaZulu-Natal through capacity building of local government and civil society institutions to ensure that both are prepared for meaningful participation in local decisionmaking processes. This grant will enable the program to continue promoting community participation and establish a culture of democracy and cooperation at the local level through training and capacity building for ward committee members and municipal officials.Since 2002, the program has conducted training for ward committees — the formal structures through which communities participate in local government — for three district municipalities in the KwaZulu-Natal province, assisting them in dealing effectively with their challenges.
