About this grant

Gender Links is a research, training, and advocacy nonprofit organization established in 2001 to encourage the promotion and attainment of gender equality, particularly in and through the media. Past support enabled it to research the role of women in politics in South Africa and the southern Africa region. The grantee disseminated the findings and used them in advocacy campaigns to promote the increased representation of women in politics. Through this grant, the grantee will support the implementation of action plans for addressing gender-based violence by South African municipalities. It will also convene the first Gender Justice and Local Government Summit, showcasing good practices by local governments in addressing gender-based violence. The summit will bring together local government stakeholders from at least eight countries in southern Africa and will convene parallel seminars on promoting women’s representation and effective participation in local government structures.
