About this grant

Friends of the Earth is the U.S. affiliate of an international network of environmental organizations based in 70 countries. Through this project, it works to advance environmental and social standards of key international development finance institutions and ensure that financing for renewable energy is democratically governed and adheres to globally recognized environmental and social standards. The grantee’s work over the last grant period contributed to improvements in Chinese development finance policies and extension of environmental and climate safeguards to the new U.S. development finance institution. During this grant period, the grantee will continue its work addressing Chinese-led development finance, including the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. It will also work for increased investment in renewable energy in Africa with a particular focus on providing energy access to rural, off-grid communities in the region.
