About this grant
The project goal of the International Research & Exchanges Board is to expand coverage by journalists from Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia of the proceedings of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. Through this project, more than 25 journalists from over 15 television, radio, and print media in the Western Balkans have traveled to The Hague to provide first-hand coverage of the historic proceedings of the tribunal. Coverage by these local journalists has deepened people’s understanding of the events in the region during the 1990s. In the final phase of the project, the grantee will support approximately 30 journalists from more than ten local media outlets in the Western Balkans to report from the tribunal until it closes down in 2008. The grantee is based in Washington, D.C., and has worked extensively in the Balkans to support the development of independent journalism and media.
