About this grant
This grant will provide general purpose support to the Charities Aid Foundation-Southern Africa, which promotes corporate and individual giving in South Africa with an emphasis on workplace giving and corporate matching gifts. In 2009-2010, the foundation distributed around R14 million to nonprofit organizations, assisted over 500 nonprofits either through financial support or in-kind contributions, and facilitated the donation of tens of thousands of volunteer hours from various South Africans to nonprofit organizations. It also assisted companies to develop corporate social investment policies and strategies to improve developmental impact and corporate citizenship and assisted the banking sector to develop a volunteering policy and framework. Over the next two years, the foundation will continue to promote giving and provide support services to businesses, government, and the nonprofit sector to improve their planning and management of social development programs. It will also conduct a national survey on individual giving and promote best practices on giving.
